I had a weekend job at a boatyard in Arundel when I was a schoolboy. One morning I discovered a corpse caught under the work boat. My friend John Attoe tied a rope round it and we towed it to the boatyard.
I tried to recollect the incident in this painting which I did blindfolded.
The memory is still vivid and made sharper by concentrating on my memory and not the charcoal drawing. When I took the blindfold off I was surprised by the power of the image.
I added paint to the drawing at a later stage.
